From Microbubbles to Nanobubbles: Effect on Flotation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Attachment of particles and droplets to bubbles—the latter being various fine sizes created by different techniques (as described in detail)—forms the basis flotation, a process which indeed was originated from mineral processing. Nevertheless, chemistry often plays significant role this area, order for separation be effective, as stressed. This (brief) review particularly discusses wastewater treatment applications effect bubble size (from nano- micro-) on flotation process.

Raw water clarification by flotation with microbubbles and nanobubbles generated with a multiphase pump.
Raw water clarification by flotation was studied by injecting air into a centrifugal multiphase pump to generate microbubbles (MBs) and nanobubbles (NBs). Measurements of gas dispersion parameters were performed and optimal conditions were obtained using a pump pressure of 4 bar. Values showed a bubble Sauter diameter of 75 μm, an air holdup of 1.2%, a bubble surface area flux of 34 s-1 and an ...

We develop a novel dual-modal contrast agent-encapsulated-ink poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microbubbles and nanobubbles-for photoacoustic and ultrasound imaging. Soft gelatin phantoms with embedded tumor simulators of encapsulated-ink PLGA microbubbles and nanobubbles in various concentrations are clearly shown in both photoacoustic and ultrasound images. In addition, using photoacousti...
متن کاملEffect of Disjoining Pressure on Surface Nanobubbles.
In gas-oversaturated solutions, stable surface nanobubbles can exist thanks to a balance between the Laplace pressure and the gas overpressure, provided the contact line of the bubble is pinned. In this article, we analyze how the disjoining pressure originating from the van der Waals interactions of the liquid and the gas with the surface affects the properties of the surface nanobubbles. From...
متن کاملThe effect of microbubbles on developed turbulence
The motion and the action of microbubbles in homogeneous and isotropic turbulence are investigated through ~three-dimensional! direct numerical simulations of the Navier–Stokes equations and applying the Lagrangian approach to track the bubble trajectories. The forces acting on the bubbles are added mass, drag, lift, and gravity. The bubbles are found to accumulate in vortices, preferably on th...
متن کاملComparison of the synergistic effect of lipid nanobubbles and SonoVue microbubbles for high intensity focused ultrasound thermal ablation of tumors
Microbubbles (MBs) are considered as an important enhancer for high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment of benign or malignant tumors. Recently, different sizes of gas-filled bubbles have been investigated to improve the therapeutic efficiency of HIFU thermal ablation and reduce side effects associated with ultrasound power and irradiation time. However, nanobubbles (NBs) as an ultras...
